Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

RecommendedSitters.com is built on trust, so we try to collect as little as possible and keep private things private. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Information you give us

  • Parents: name, email address, town and state, and a link to a public Facebook or LinkedIn profile used to confirm you are a real local parent.
  • Babysitters: name, email, town and state, age, experience, rate, languages, availability, a short bio, and an optional photo you choose to upload.
  • Recommendations and messages: the text, ratings, and contact details you include when you recommend a sitter or send a sitter a message.

Information collected automatically

We record basic private usage analytics — pages viewed, searches run, sitter profiles opened, contact forms sent, sign-ins — so we can understand how the site is used. This is stored with a random session identifier and, for signed-in users, an account id. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.

How we use information

  • To create and display babysitter listings and parent recommendations.
  • To let parents contact sitters without exposing anyone's private contact details.
  • To verify that recommendations come from real local parents.
  • To send account emails: sign-up, password reset, claim invitations, notifications.
  • To moderate the site, prevent abuse, and improve how it works.

What is public and what is not

Public: an approved babysitter's first name and last initial, town and state, rate, availability, languages, bio, photo, and the text of approved recommendations.

Never public: babysitter email addresses and phone numbers, parent email addresses, message contents, and analytics data. Parent identity is shown only in a limited form (such as a first name) alongside a recommendation. Social profile links you provide are used for verification by the site operator and are not published.

Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help run the site — hosting and database infrastructure, authentication, and email delivery — and only as needed for them to perform that work. We may also disclose information if legally required, or to protect the safety of a child or another person.

Cookies and similar technology

We use cookies and browser storage that are necessary for the site to work, mainly to keep you signed in and to hold a random session identifier for usage analytics. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

The site is intended for adults. Parent accounts require you to be 18 or older, and babysitters must be at least 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will remove it.

Data retention

We keep account, listing, recommendation and message data for as long as the account or listing is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards for moderation and safety records. Usage analytics are kept in aggregate form. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Your choices

  • Sitters can edit or update their own profile, rate and availability at any time.
  • You can ask us to correct or remove a recommendation you submitted.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal information.
  • You can opt out of non-essential emails.

Email greg@walkntours.com with any of these requests.

Security

Data is stored with managed cloud infrastructure, access to records is restricted by database-level access rules, and passwords are handled by our authentication provider — we never see them. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
